

This course takes place over five weekends or on ten individual days at two or three week intervals.
Sessions each day start at 9.00pm and finish at approximately 5.30pm. There is a reasonable gap between each session to enable students to carry out home treatments supported by case history notes, and to complete assignments and develop their practical skills
Theory:
History, definition and development of aromatherapy. Philosophy of complementary medicine.
Essential oils - definition, countries of origin, methods of production, therapeutic properties, use, care and storage of oils.
Carrier oils.
An introduction to other natural therapies. The holistic approach. Integral Biology.
Simple blending of essential oils/synergies. Safety consideration and contra-
indications. Simple chemical constituents and principles.
Professionalism and ethics.
Practical:
A working knowledge of at least 40 Essential Oils. Selecting and blending
essential oils. Use, care and storage.
Carrier oils.
Client assessment, client care and handling referral procedures. Consultation and
case history taking.
Aromatherapy Massage - full body, face and scalp. Frequency of treatments.
Home Study:
In-depth case histories with reactions and notes to be carried
out on at least nine people.
Essays.
Students who reach the required standard will be submitted for the I.T.E.C. Diploma examination - a practical exam consisting of a complete Aromatherapy treatment including a consultation and the blending ofselected oils. Oral questions will be asked where appropriate. In-depth case histories and a wirtten assisngment are to be handed to the tutor and verified by the external examiner.
