The course follows the International Therapy Education Council (I.T.E.C.) syllabus and students must be prepared to give an overall commitment of at least 100 hours to their tuition and studies including completion of four detailed assignments. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the I.T.E.C. Diploma examination Massage. A mock examination to assess a student’s skills is held at the end of each course. The examination for the ITEC Diploma is comprised of a one hour multiple choice theory paper and a practical examination which requires the student to perofrm a massage routine in the presence of an external examiner.
Supervised sessions will be held regularly to enable students to work together and practice their techniques. Time is also set aside during these sessions for individual tuition and guidance. Students are also expected to practice massage sequences throughout the course, and should keep records of these treatments in accordance with the guidelines set by the tutor. These case histories are an essential part of the course and are regularly reviewed in detail.
Practical massage sessions are combined with the detailed theoretical study of anatomy and physiology, holistic massage, business awareness and professional conduct. The text book and course notes are provided by the school although it is advisable for students to provide a ring binder and file paper for additional note taking.
Homework is an important part of the course in respect of both practical and theoretical work, and it is essential that each student is prepared to commit time to home study. Students are continually assessed during the course, so that help and additional tuition can be provided if necessary.
